Sturt's Desert Rose
Gossypium sturtianum
Despite the common name it's a cotton plant. Also known as Australian Cotton but due to low lint yeilds was never cultivated commercially.
The floral emblem of the Northern Territory.

Named guinea flower by early settlers because its colour resembled the gold quinea coins in use.
